This is even more tangible when we look at the data on economic activity in the online environment during 2022. According to the Portuguese government, e-commerce accounted for 56% of GDP last year, a percentage that roughly corresponds to around 129.5 billion euros.

That's exactly why, over the next few lines, we're going to show you the best-selling products on the internet in our country.
What are the best-selling products online in Portugal?
The "star category" of online sales in Portugal is Fashion and Footwear!
According to the CTT e-Commerce Report 2022, Portuguese consumers access e-commerce in order to compare clothes and shoes at more affordable prices and in greater comfort, since they don't need to leave the house or waste time in a shopping centre.
It should be emphasised that this category accounted for around 73% of the online searches carried out by Portuguese consumers and achieved a growth of 10% in its sales when compared to 2021.
In second place on the podium is the category of "Electronic and computer equipment" and in bronze are books and films (particularly subscriptions to streaming platforms).
Off the podium we find, respectively,
- the "Hygiene and Cosmetics" category with 45% of consumers using the Internet preferring the online channel for their purchases of creams and perfumes
- the "Ready meals delivered at home" category with a share of 38% in purchasing volume
- in 6th place, the "Travel and Stays" category which, given the tourism boom (the sector grew by 52% last year) and the better customer experience offered, has moved closer to the top-5.
At the bottom of the table we find "Tickets", namely for concerts and other cultural and sporting events, "Household Appliances", "Utensils for the Home" (27% share of the volume of online purchases) and, in 10th place, the category of "Sports Equipment" which, in view of the Portuguese taking greater care of their bodies, has grown steadily over the years.
